A rooftop tailgate, delicious BBQ, tasty beer, and even an Ice Bucket Challenge — Sounders Day 2014 had it all.
Thanks to the more than 400 of you who joined us for an awesome Wednesday evening that started on the wonderful deck of EMC/Isilon overlooking Puget Sound and ended with an exciting Sounders match just a few blocks away at CenturyLink Field.
It was tons of fun hanging with some of Seattle’s coolest geeks and listening to Sounders FC general manager Adrian Hanauer share insights about the growth of both soccer and technology in Seattle.
“We should do this every night or before every game, that’s for sure,” Hanauer said of Sounders Day.
Hanauer also noted how the Sounders front office recently moved into Pioneer Square among several fast-growing Seattle startups.
“We get to become part of this tech community in Pioneer Square near the stadium and really create our own unique identity in this neighborhood,” he said.
Bill Richter, president of Isilon, spoke about bringing together what he called three innovators — Isilon, the Sounders, and GeekWire — in one place.
“I love this because it’s three different sectors of society, all massive innovators, coming together to celebrate,” Richter said. “And of course the outcome is an incredible party.”
A big thanks to our great partners at EMC/Isilon who co-hosted this event with us. Thanks also to our supporting sponsors of Nuance, Disys, ALLtech, ShareBuilder, and Ticketmaster.
