Catan vs. Craps.
That was the scene Wednesday evening at the Spitfire Grill as more than 300 gaming geeks took part in our second annual GeekWire Game Night.
The serious Settlers of Catan fanatics packed around a dozen tables — quietly trading wheat, ore, brick and wood like it was going out of style. Zenobase founder Eric Jain even busted out a Catan Seafarers edition, though he lost out in the end on his 4-person table.
In the DoubleDown Casino room, the environment was a bit different with all the hootin’ and hollerin’ of the high-rollers — including entrepreneur Bob Crimmins — rolling 7’s and 11’s on the craps table. GeekWire co-founder John Cook couldn’t lose on the black jack tables, and the roulette wheel was spinning all night producing plenty of winners.
But whether it was Catan or casino, everybody got a chance to let out their competitive spirits last night. Thanks to everyone for coming out, and we hope you had as much fun as we did.
A big congrats to the raffle winners who took home an iPad mini and $100 gift certificates from Tom Douglas restaurants, courtesy of our sponsor DoubleDown Interactive.
Also, a big thanks to TeachStreet founder and Amazon Web Services manager Dave Schappell — sporting a sweet T-shirt with the word “cloud” on the front — who bought the first round of drinks and handed out $100 gift cards to AWS.
Of course, a big thanks to our Game Night sponsors, who helped make everything possible: Outlook.com; Summit Group Solutions; IMS Health/Appature; Point Inside and RichRelevance.
If you missed this meetup, don’t worry. We’re gearing up for our next one on September 4th — a rooftop tailgate party at EMC/Isilon before the Seattle Sounders match against Chivas USA. Geeks + Sounders + Rooftop Deck = Awesome! Details here.
Here’s a look at some of the action from last night.
