A group of seven tech companies made a series of voluntary commitments with the White House to develop AI responsibly and manage the risks posed by the burgeoning technology.
- Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI are part of the group, and will meet at the White House on Friday.
- The commitments include making sure the products are secure and safe before releasing them to the public; developing systems such as watermarking to make sure users know when content is AI generated; prioritizing research on the societal risks of AI; and more.
- The White House said it is developing an executive order related to responsible AI development and “will pursue bipartisan legislation to help America lead the way in responsible innovation.”
- “By moving quickly, the White House’s commitments create a foundation to help ensure the promise of AI stays ahead of its risks,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a blog post. “We welcome the President’s leadership in bringing the tech industry together to hammer out concrete steps that will help make AI safer, more secure, and more beneficial for the public.”
