Brian Valentine, the senior vice president of Amazon’s e-commerce platform for the past seven years, is retiring from the Seattle company next month.
An Amazon spokesman confirmed the news to GeekWire this afternoon. The spokesman said the teams managed by Valentine will report to other senior leaders at the company.
Valentine, 54, was previously in charge of Windows engineering at Microsoft — earning a reputation as a strong leader in the Windows 2000 and Windows XP eras.
The timing of his departure from Amazon might seem intriguing to people following the Microsoft CEO search, so just for the record, in case anyone is wondering, he is not believed to be among the potential candidates to replace Steve Ballmer.
No word yet on Valentine’s future plans, but we’ll update this post if we hear more.
