Seattle’s Pacific Science Center is teaming with the Amazon Future Engineer program to deliver more science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) interactive education programming to students from underserved and historically underrepresented communities.
Amazon is fueling the effort with a $1 million grant which will help PacSci expand subsidized services that it provides to K-8 Title I schools — those where 40% or more of the student population is classified as low-income. Special focus will be on the Seattle metro area of the next two years.
Future Engineer is Amazon’s global philanthropic education initiative. It launched in 2018 with a focus on computer science as a core element of STEM disciplines.
PacSci’s goal is to reach 80,000 students with a suite of educational experiences designed to spark students’ curiosity, critical thinking and appreciation for science fields and careers, according to PacSci CEO Will Daugherty.
