The City of Seattle received $393,200 as part of a federal grant program to help lower-income residents get free or heavily discounted internet access.
- The money comes from the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Outreach Grant Program, which has reached more than 18 million households.
- Residents can apply for the program here. The city’s Digital Equity Program is also partnering with community-based organizations and setting up enrollment clinics later this year to help people apply.
- “This new federal funding will allow us to explore more opportunities to reach residents and align them with crucial technology support lacking in some communities,” said Interim Chief Technology Officer Jim Loter, who recently spoke on the GeekWire Podcast.
