— Faisal Masud, the former CEO of Seattle e-commerce startup Fabric, joined Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett-Packard.
Masud told GeekWire he’ll serve as senior vice president and president of WW Digital Services, a new division created inside HP Workforce Solutions, the company’s software-as-a-service business. He will remain in Seattle.
Masud spent more than six years at Amazon in the 2000s, helping build inventory tools and launching the AmazonBasics product line. He then had stints at eBay, Groupon, and Staples, where he was chief digital officer and chief technology officer. Masud was also COO at Wing, the Alphabet-owned drone company where he launched the global drone delivery program for major retailers in food and pharmacy.
Fabric last year announced a $140 million Series C funding round, led by SoftBank, at a valuation of about $1.5 billion.
The company offers software, APIs, and other behind-the-scenes technology used by retailers and business-to-business brands for many aspects of online commerce, including pricing/promotion, inventory management, digital storefronts, and payments/checkout.
Fabric named veteran tech leader Mike Micucci as CEO in August. He took over from Fabric CFO Wesley Pua, who acted as interim CEO after Masud transitioned out of the role in May. Masud remains on the board.
Founded by Bill Hewlett and David Packard in 1939, HP spun off its enterprise software business in 2015 to focus on computers and printers. The tech giant reported second quarter net revenue of $12.9 billion, down more than 21% from the year-ago period.
