—T-Mobile announced Thursday that IBM CFO James Kavanaugh joined its board of directors.
Kavanaugh joined IBM nearly three decades ago and became CFO in 2018. Prior to IBM, Kavanaugh was CFO for AT&T’s Americas global services.
In a statement, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert praised Kavanaugh’s “impressive track record of driving financial strategy and broad operations across technology and telecommunications industries.”
Kavanaugh will also serve on the board’s audit committee. T-Mobile is set to announce earnings next week.
— Seattle experimentation startup Statsig hired Yuzheng Sun as a data scientist. Sun previously worked as a vice director at Chinese tech giant Tencent and senior data scientist at Meta.
— Starbucks hired former Target and Amazon exec Arthur Valdez as executive vice president of global supply and customer solutions.
— Alicia Zeng will be the director of operations of Pure Ventures, a San Fransisco-based early-stage venture firm that just landed $20 million for its second fund. Zeng, based in Seattle, is the CEO and founder of Seattle-based cosmetics company Lilac Street and has held positions at Google, McKinsey & Co., and other early-stage startups.
— Brian Bosché, director of marketing at Smartsheet, said he was stepping down from his role after more than four years at the work collaboration software company. He previously co-founded Slope, a startup that helped companies manage their creative project production processes and was acquired by Smartsheet in 2019.
— Three professors from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center were elected into the Washington State Academy of Sciences:
- Jesse Bloom, a professor and investigator, was acknowledged for his contributions to our understanding of “viral evolution and how mutations shape a pathogen’s ability to infect and spread.”
- Denise Galloway, a professor and director, was recognized for advancing understanding of small DNA tumor viruses’ role in cancer development.
- Barry Stoddard, a professor, was recognized for contributing to structure-based computational protein engineering and advancing science in Washington state.
— Fred Hutch and University of Washington professor of medicine Gabriela Chiorean was named as a member of the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
— Dalton Van Hatchet joined customer experience startup Hark as part of its growth and partnerships team. He is also the CEO and co-founder of Hatchet Ventures, a startup advisory firm that prioritizes working with underrepresented founders.
